About Us
The Alliance Française de Jacksonville belongs to the Network of around 800 French Alliances in the world , of which over 100 are in the United States.
As such, its mission is to spread the French language and French culture outside of France. This mission is organized into three areas:
The association was founded in 1962 by Suzanne Carrell, also the founder of the Congress of French Culture, an annual meeting of the Francophonie in Florida which has been held in Orlando for more than 60 years.
The Alliance Française de Jacksonville, a social club in its early days, has gradually developed over the years and is now a Language School with its own premises, organizing several cultural events every month, and participating in the promotion of the Jacksonville-France exchanges, in particular in partnership with the Jacksonville Sister Cities Association and the committee dedicated to twinning with the city of Nantes.
Each year, several Group classes are offered for children and adults of all levels. Private lessons are also offered throughout the year.
Numerous events are organized each month such as films, conferences, culinary and oenological events (including the Fête des Rois, the Chandeleur or the Beaujolais Nouveau).
The association has also recently developed its digital offering with an online service called Culturethèque that allows its members to access their favorite French magazine or daily newspaper as soon as they go out in kiosks, watch concerts, listen to conferences, read books and comics and develop their skills in French directly from their computer, tablet or smartphone.
In constant development, we are always looking for volunteers to participate directly in its activities in various fields: organization of events, creation of communication media (physical and digital), promotion of association, the establishment of partnerships, sharing of experiences. Send us an eamil at [email protected] if you are interested
